The Ulster Chamber Foundation’s signature program, Leadership Ulster, (formerly Ulster Leadership Development Institute/ULDI) is a nine-month intensive program for current and emerging business and community leaders. The program:
• Develops, improves, and enriches leadership, entrepreneurial, and team building skills.
• Enhances knowledge of the region’s business, non-profit, and government sectors.
• Challenges individuals from diverse backgrounds to be influential within their own communities by assuming leadership roles or participating in local organizations.
• Integrates leadership skill building with valuable networking opportunities through presentations, panel discussions, and networking receptions.
• Encourages team building through coordination of class projects from design through conclusion.
• Provides continued networking and mentoring opportunities via the Leadership Ulster Alumni Association.
The Annual Youth Leadership Summit is open to all Ulster County high school students in grades 9-12. This interactive one-day summit is coordinated and facilitated by current Leadership Ulster participants and:
• Utilizes team building activities, collaboration, and networking with Summit facilitators to provide real-life leadership and career development skills to the next generation of leaders.
• Assists youth in identifying personal strengths and exploring options for career or professional goals.
• Recent topics included financial literacy, professional communications, and stress management.
The Ulster Women in Leadership committee envisions a network of experienced and aspiring women leaders supporting, empowering, and connecting with each other through sharing and mentorship. Current activities include:
• Quarterly intimate sessions hosted and sponsored by regional women owned or managed businesses for networking and mentoring from women leaders and small businessowners.
• Annual Luncheon to celebrate International Women’s Day and Women’s History Month by highlighting prominent local women.
The Len Cane Memorial Scholarship Fund was established in 2015, and honors Len’s vision in creating Leadership Ulster. Len Cane served as the President of the Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce from 1969 to 2003. This Fund provides tuition assistance to applicants whose nonprofit, small entrepreneurial, or organizational budget cannot support the full tuition to attend Leadership Ulster.
Through the Leadership Ulster Alumni Hall of Fame, the Ulster Chamber Foundation recognizes the exemplary work and voluntarism of alumni. Honorees have consistently demonstrated strong leadership capabilities and has used such to benefit the region and their specific communities.
